Mill Pond

Mill Pond is a west Richmond Hill community which hosts many heritage homes on relatively large lots. People who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere will enjoy Mill Pond. Mill Pond Park is at the centre of the community, and it is easy to reach from the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Community Overview

Mill Pond community runs from Yonge St on the East to Major Mackenzie in the south, Bathurst St on the west, and Elgin Mills in the north. With its lush setting and home to various wildlife species, the pond attracts many visitors and residents alike.

1. Housing:

In Mill Pond, about 80% of buildings are single detached homes, while semi-detached houses and townhomes are about 5%. Most residential real estate in Mill Pond was constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s, and about 25% of homes in Mill Pond were built between 1980 and 1990. Close to Yonge Street are many historical homes that highlight the area's rich heritage. Most semi-detached sits on the east side of the community. In the area around Mill Pond, one will find Bungalows, back split, side split and many detached Colonial-Revival style houses, all on large lots. A fine collection of Georgian-Revival-style houses forms the Heritage Estates subdivision close to Regent Street and Ellery Drive. There are also a small number of old apartment buildings concentrated at the east end of the community close to Yonge St.

From MLS listings, in the past 90 days, Mill Pond Richmond Hill sold 20 detached houses on average of $1,803,734; 8 Attached town home, Semi-detached and Link houses on average of $1,442,750; 2 Town homes on average of $932,900; 4 condos on average of $514,475.

2. Demographic:

Over 60% are native English Speakers, and Chinese, Italian, Persian and Russian are very popular in the area. Close to Mill Pond Park and west of the park saw higher income levels than the east. The community attracts many new immigrants to settle down.

3. Transportation:

About 10 bus lines connect the community, and the nearest bus stop is usually very close. However, it is sometimes difficult for pedestrians to live in the community without using a car. The nearest Go station is the Richmond Hill Go. A large parking lot attached to the Go Station allows those who wish to use public transit to park their cars.

4. Recreation:

Mill Pond Park is a popular outdoor recreation and entertainment area. There are a playground, boardwalk and trail, gazebos and many areas to sit and relax. Mill Pond is also a great place to skate or play hockey with friends and family in the winter.

5. Shopping:

Many local shops and restaurants are available along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill's historic downtown district.

6. Schools:

O. M. Mackillop Public School and Pleasantville Public School are two elementary schools that accept students from kindergarten to grade 8. Trench St, Wood Ln and Mill Pont Trail bound the school zone with O. M. Mackillop School intake students living East and Pleasantville west. Located at the south border of the community is Alexander Mackenzie High School. Alexander Mackenzie High School offers a specialized arts program to students. In 2017, Alexander Mackenzie and G.W. Williams SS, Maple HS, and Miliken Mills HS joined Bayview SS as the board's IB Diploma Program schools.
